River and ocean cruises are enjoying strong growth figures and are a good addition to your current product variety.
Compared to the classic coach tour, cruises have a few special features that you should definitely consider for successful marketing.

Our top 5 most important marketing tips and your personal sales professional will help you:

1. Early marketing of your cruise

For cruise lines, groups are an important instrument for early utilisation of their ships. However, group quotas are only made available for a very limited period of time in order to then focus on individual seat sales at a later date. We therefore recommend that before ordering a quota, you check whether the specified deadlines for name registration fit into your marketing planning.

Notice:
The earlier you market, the better prices you will have compared to those available online during this period.

Tip:
If you are not sure whether you can fill your coach with just one cruise, we will be happy to make you an offer for a parallel round trip. For some cruises we already have these in our programme.

2. Find the right product for your customers

River:
River cruises are offered on the most famous European rivers, as well as in Russia (Volga), Egypt (Nile), China (Yantze) and Vietnam (Mekong). All providers have modernised their fleets in recent years and most offer ships with French balconies on the upper decks. Ship sizes are limited by the locks alone, with capacities ranging from 100 to 200 passengers.

Ocean:
For ocean cruises, the variety of products is considerably greater. For customers who prefer the classic cruise product with smaller ships (420 - 1100 persons), we recommend our tours in the north with the ships MS HAMBURG, MS OCEAN MAJESTY, MS VASCO DA GAMA and the MS BERLIN. If you are looking for a product with international flair and German service on board, our Mediterranean products with our partner MSC (on the German market) are ideal for you.

Tip:
On the large ships, your customers will find their way around just as easily and simply as on the smaller ones - thanks to bright large corridors and extensive signposting. So please don't be shy about the "cruise giants".

3. Finding the right cabin

Flow:
The quietest cabins are in the middle of the ship. Very noise-sensitive customers should not be accommodated in the forward cabins, as the bow thrusters can be heard there, which are used at every lock.

A special feature of the river: due to the limited number of berths in the ports, ships can sometimes moor in so-called "packs". This means that 2-3 ships are moored next to each other and thus the view from the cabin is restricted for the period.

High Seas:
The quietest cabins are also in the middle of the ship, which is also an advantage in heavy seas. The best all-round view is from the cabins on the forecastle or at the stern. For customers with walking difficulties, it is best to look on the deck plan for cabins that are close to the restaurants or the lifts. Generally, the higher the deck, the more expensive the cabin.

4. Shore excursions

Please remember to book any shore excursions in good time. Should you wish to undertake these on your own, please clarify in advance with our customer service department whether the shipping company allows this.

Notice:
On the larger ships, guests who have booked their shore excursion through the shipping company will be let off the ship first. Please allow for this time delay in your planning if you organise the excursions yourself.

5. On board

Do you have any wishes as to how your groups are divided up for meals on board or do you need a function room? Then please let us know in good time so that we can clarify this for you. On board, the Group Manager or the Cruise Director will be at your disposal for any changes or further requests.
